Понадобилось пару месяцев назад восстановить прошивку на бюджетном NAS-хранилище Iomega IX2-ng (оно же IX2-dl). Все найденные руководства относились к предыдущей модели IX2-200 и были неактуальны.
Ситуация незатейлива, поупалось хранилище с двумя дисками по 1Тб, а хотелось установить 2x3Tb. Владелец, не зная особенностей устройства, просто вытащил оба диска и сразу их отформатировал, потом вставил новые и получил мигающий "кирпич". Как позже оказалось, прошивка хранилсь на самих же дисках и подобных историй в Интернете масса. Менять же диски нужно по одному: один заменил, сразу синхронизировал, потом второй - синхронизировал. После этого можно расширить том на появившееся свободное пространство. Ну, в общем, было поздно.
После некоторых мытарств, удалось "родить" инструкцию:- Скачиваем образ прошивки с офф. сайта. Или с обменника. Объём 198 мб. Ссылку удалось выбить у тех. поддержки. На официальном сайте можно скачать только зашифрованную прошивку. Её, в принципе, можно расшифровать, но если есть готовое, то почему бы не воспользоваться.
- Распаковываем архив, вставляем флешку, объёмом свыше 1 Гб. И запускаем ix2-ng-3.3.2.29823.exe. Утилита запишет прошивку на флешку (\emctools\ix2-dl_images\ix2-ng-3.3.2.29823_imager.tgz).
- Далее, извлекаем два файла zImage и initrd из архива ix2-ng-3.3.2.29823_imager.tgz на комп с Linux (я использовал VirtualBox-машину с Ubuntu). Нам нужна утилита dd (возможно подойдёт и Windows-порт dd).
- Безопасно извлекаем флешку с прошивкой.
- С нового жёсткого диска удаляем все разделы. Я использовал Hitachi 3Tb. Инициализируем его, записываем таблицу разделов MBR или GPT (для дисков свыше 2Тб).
- После этого нужно записать файлы загрузчика на этот винт (я подключал винт через кабель USB->SATA и пробрасывал в виртуальную машину).

- IX2 включится и начнёт загрузку с HDD. Загрузится ядро, инициализация шины USB, определит, что винт не содержит прошивку и попытается её восстановить с флешки. Когда загорятся две красных светодиода, можно отпустить кнопку RESET. Всё это занимает примерно 30 секунд.
- Когда прошивка успешно завершится, устройство должно выключиться САМОСТОЯТЕЛЬНО. Минут 10-15. Уже точно не помню. Если устройство не выключается, значит что-то пошло не так и для диагностики нужно подключаться к консоли. Об этом ниже.
- После включения и загрузки, можно зайти в веб-интерфейс. Пароль по умолчанию admin/(пусто). Пароль по умолчанию для ssh (root/soho)
Если восстановить "вслепую" не получается, то необходимо подключаться к последовательной консоли устройства. Для это на плате есть 4ёхпиновый разьём, к которому можно подключиться при помощи преобразователя USB-TO-TTL. Я заказывал из Китая, цены смешные. Порядка 30 рублей за штуку.
Распиновка следующая:
